Howard`s Grotto in Clearlake

Their food is awesome or at least it was until I found a black hair in my soup. Found hair the last time I went there before the whole covid-19. My husband found black hair under his steak. Just make sure to check your food really well before eating. I'm never ordering from there again. The first time I I figured it was just an accident but two times? That was it for us.

This is one of the best places to go. You get soup, salad, and ice cream with your dinner. The lady servers are the best. The food is always great. Instead of Carl's Jr., just come here for a better burger for about the same price.

Always comsistent. When I want a local place for a steak & potato dinner, I go here. Fresh Salad bar, bread, entree, and dessert are always included. Full bar as well, is always open.

Had great food,great kamikazes and friendly staff

Everything about this place is dated, the food, the menu the building. The prices are high, but the food is decent. Portions we're a bit small this time, literally 1 zucchini slice 2 tiny pieces of cauliflower and some cabbage slices constituted a side of veggies. My dad likes to eat here because the food is consistently decent, and he likes that they have a salad bar. In short this is your grandpa and Grandmas style of restaurant. I had the calamari steak, with a baked potato, soup and salad bar. The calamari was pretty good, the baked potato was a little dried out,and the veggies we're skimped on. The salad bar was running low but they brought some more out for us, and I still love when a restaurant includes a scoop of ice cream with your meal.

Howard's is one of those gems that has been in seedy, gritty clearlake California or decades. Great place to get together. Comfortable bar, comfortable dining room, a great place with an older crowd. Food is always consistently good, good drinks, fair prices. Can't go wrong come in here. Always a lot of fun.

Nice crowd at the bar but fairly overpriced for the menu selections. Food is good but nothing that stands out.

I used to be a regular here 30 years ago. My how things change! My woman friend and I got up and left.Just across the street IS a nice Thai restaurant that is excellent. I won't lie.SAVE

Always a consistently good local restaurant. Many great entrees to choose from. Open Monday through Friday from 11a.m. to closing about 8 p.m. Saturday & Sunday open for brunch at 11a.m. to closing. Breakfast until 2p.m. every day plus complete lunch menu.

We are heading back home to oregon, found this restaurant after hearing good reviews from the staff at best western, the food is so delicious! My husband got ham and egg breakfast, I tried the hobo breakfast, the food is so fresh and great service. I would definitely eat here again! Unfortunately I'll probably never be back in this part of California again, but if you do stop in this town, I highly reccomend this place!

Wonderful meals. Four of us each ordered a different meal, and all were excellent. Very fresh ingredients. Great service.

Classic breakfast spot. If you get the pancakes, order real syrup. You won't be disappointed!

Great service every time and yummy food but very very pricey. Expect to spend min of $20 a plate, but you do get a lot. You get your meal two sides a cup of soup and a trip to the salad bar and a cup of ice cream. Will only go for special occasions and definitely will not bring my children

Good food:Steak and potatoesItalian food , Mexican food, soup and salad with your meal. Inside bar, with a nice setting. Location is across from the lake & park, the name is ( Redbud Park), it also has boat docks and launching area , w/ public bathroom's, picnic tables, (some with gazebo) over them & very large parking area, all located on the lake with nice views of Mt. Konocti .

I always enjoy the food drinks. Most of the owners and staff are great and helpful. The salad bar is always fresh and a good selection of food. It is also a safe place to go to for dinner or lunch. I have been going there for years. Number one in clealake.

The food was hearty, salad bar had good options and its Home Cooked. We needed warmth and not fast food and this Grotto held it down. It's got regulars and everyone was friendly. I would go again

I've been dinning at Howard's Grotto since I can remember! Always good drinks and delicious food! And when Howard's there, you for sure will be laughing!🤣He is a hoot! I usually get the soup and salad bar or a French dip!

Best place in lake county for the price.

Unfortunately I don't get to eat here often because I live on the other side of the lake, but when I do it's always excellent! Hands down the best prime rib in the County!! A bit pricey but worth it! Great salad bar and soups too! Doesn't look like much from the outside but I highly recommend you give it a try!

Friendly staff, good quality food for reasonable prices. I've been coming to this place for years. Every time I come to Clearlake, this is a must stop.! Never disappointed. Bring your appetite!

My family loves the Grotto! It's family owned and run & the food is delicious with a menu that has a lot of options. Great service.

This place has been around Clearlake a long time and has a loyal following. However the times I have eaten here I have found the food very bland and unmemorable. It's not bad but it's your Grandparents food there's alot of choices on the menu and a decent salad bar.

I don't know about the other reviews but for me and my wife this place was great. The fish platters were some of the best we've had , as to restaurant quality. And the staff both friendly and knew the food menus so we actually got everything we wanted.And unlike some other places they never allow you to sit empty handed, water soda, etc, from the time you walk in the door. What else can I say for a place I ate at twice than this is the spot for Clear Lake.

We like a lot going out. Last night we arrived in this delicious place which we didn’t know before. We spent a delightful experience there with high-qulity food and a nice stuff and a great chief cook. We added this place in our list and we shall definitely go again soon. We deeply recommend.

Love this place you will not be hungry leaving here. They give you warm yummy bread and butter while you wait. Most meals come with soup and or salad. The best salad bar around. The steaks are so tender. And they even serve ice cream for dessert. Comes with most meals.

Great place, nice staff, amazing food, huge portions. The fresh salad bar is awesome. Lemonade is refreshing, the New York steak is melt in your mouth good.
